John Jacob "J.J." Alleman, age 88 of Greencastle, Pa., died at 7:50 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2005, in the Falling Spring Nursing And Rehabilitation Center in Chambersburg, Pa., where he had been a resident since September 2, 2005.
Born July 28, 1917, in Mercersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late John Silas and Blanche (Hamilton) Alleman. He owned and operated the former J.J. Alleman Electric Co. in Greencastle for 62 years. In his earlier years, he worked seven years at the former A.G. Crunkleton Electric Co. of Greencastle.
Mr. Alleman was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Mercersburg, Pa., where he served as a deacon. He was a life member and past president of the Rescue Hose Co. 1 of Greencastle. He also served as the fire company's chaplain for over 30 years. He was a life member of the Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post 6319 and a member of the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post 373, both of Greencastle. Mr. Alleman was a former member and past president of the Greencastle Rotary Club, former member of the Greencastle Chamber Of Commerce and member of the Franklin-Fulton Fireman's Association. He was one of the co-founders of the Greencastle Sidewalk Sale Days and taught electrical work at Site R, near Blue Ridge Summit.
Mr. Alleman was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving with the Seabees. He was a graduate of Mercersburg High School and the Bliss Electrical School in Washington, D.C. He enjoyed smoking his cigars.
He and his wife, DeLee A. (Cordell) Alleman, were married November 21, 1962, in Westminster, Md. She died on February 14, 2003.
Surviving family are four sons, David Alleman, Greencastle, Pa., John Alleman, State Line, Pa., Jay Alleman, Greencastle, Pa., Jeffery Alleman, Greencastle, Pa.; three daughters, Julia Alleman, Greencastle, Pa., Sue Powell, Waynesboro, Pa., Linda May, Chambersburg, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Stoner; an infant son, Wilbur Alleman; grandson, Steaphen Alleman; and a great-granddaughter, Nicole Dunagan.
