Daniel Richard Chance registered for the WWI draft in Wayne Co., Miss. He was described on the registration form as being medium height and medium build with brown eyes and black hair. According to Daniel's own children, he was half-Cherokee and therefore received checks from the government. However, "white" was checked on his draft registration form. Of course, during that time, if someone was of mixed ethnicity, they often tried to hide it.
Daniel worked as a school patrolman. He lived in Dallas for 25 years and died of a heart attack at Parkland Hospital.
