In Crash, 6 Die
HOLDEN, Utah, March 25—(UP) —Six persons, three of them from one family, were killed last night when a California car and a Utah auto collided on an icy highway curve two miles north of Holden in central Utah.
The victims were:
William M. Mitchell Sr., 40, Murray, Utah; Mrs. Eva Margaret Mitchell, 37, his wife; William Mack Mitchell Jr., 16, their son; Arvid H. Wahlen Sr., 73, Murray; Carl Job Boore, 23, Orange Cove; Calif, and Richard L. Whitworth, 23, Orange Cove.
Try to Pass Truck
State trooper E. C Sherwood said Boore, driving a southbound car on U. S. highway 91, attempted to pass a Grand Junction, Colo., freight truck on a hilly curve.
Sherwood said the elder Mitchell, northbound, saw Boore's auto heading at him and attempted to avoid a collision but lost control on the ice and the machines met head-on.
Four of the victims were killed instantly. The elder Mitchell and his son died later in a hospital at Fillmore, Utah.
Two other Mitchell children, Dennis, 8, and Pamela, 3, survived the crash and were hospitalized with cuts and bruises.
It was Utah's second worst traffic mishap. On February 17 of this year, seven members of an Ogden wedding party died when their car went off the highway near Kaysville.
