Barnetta Pickett, the first child of Gus and Maggie (née Fullingim) Pickett, was born in 1902. She attended North Texas Teachers College, Denton, Texas, now called North Texas University. Prior to her marriage to Fearral Strange, she taught school. After their children were of school age, she managed the school cafeteria in the Alvord Public School, serving as buyer of supplies and assuming other duties in the kitchen. Her cousin, Archer Fullingim, wrote fondly of his favorite cousin, Barnetta, and their growing up years at Oak Grove in The Kountze News.
Barnetta and her husband Fearrel Strange had four children together: Edwin (1927), Gerald, Doris (1934), and Paul (1939).

Barnetta (Pickett) Strange, 84, of Alvord [Texas] died Thursday in a Fort Worth nursing home. Service was Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Alvord, where she was a member. The Rev. George Thompson and the Rev. Terry Sparks officiated. Burial was in Alvord Cemetery. Pallbearers were Max Holloway, Benni King, J.C. Stockton, Williard Howell, Jimmy Malone, Bill Spain and C.P. Smith Jr.
Mrs. Strange, born July 8, 1902 in Wise County [to Gus and Maggie (Fullingim) Pickett], married Fearrel Strange, April 20, 1926. Barnetta was an employee of the Alvord schools for many years.
Other survivors include sons, Edwin Strange and Gerald and Paul Strange of Hobbs, N.M.; daughter, Doris Edwards of Bedford; sister, Lucille (Pickett) Ogletree of Lamesa, Texas; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Coker Funeral Home in Decatur made arrangements.
