His parents were Quarles Banfield and Lucy A. Warren who were living in Robinson Township, Greene Co, MO in 1850 with Lewis F (7), E F (5) and Mary J (1) Banfield. Quarles was born in TN and Lucy was born in NC while the children were born in MO.
A Lewis Banfield served in the Greene Co. Regiment, Missouri Home Guard, in Capt Reed's Co. in company K as a private during the Civil War.
Another Lewis Banfield served in the 24th Regiment, Missouri Infantry in Company A as a private during the Civil War. He enlisted on 5 Aug 1861 andwas discharged on 14 Dec 1864. (This is our Louis Banfield as determined via pension application.)
On 19 Jul 1865 Mr. Lewis Banfield married Miss Nancy Giboney, in Greene Co, MO
Lewis (or Louis) F Banfield (25) was living with his wife Nancy C. (23) and son Qualls (2) in Ebenezer, Robberson Township, Green Co, MO in 1870.
In 1864 he applied for an invalid's pension so apparently he was wounded during the Civil War. In 1903 his wife Nancy applied again for pension support.
In June 1880 Louis and Nancy were living in Franklin, Green Co, MO with children Quals W (12), George F (6), Nancy E. (4) and William P (2)
In June 1900, Louis and Nancy were living in Looney, Polk Co, MO with children Coly (32), Lucy (15) and Harry (10).
Nancy lived until 1936 where she died in the State Hospital, in Nevada, Washington Township, Vernon Co, MO. According to her death certificate she was buried in Ozark, MO.
