James Lawrance "Jimmie" McBride died on Friday, May 22, 2009. He was born in Denton on January 31, 1941, to Olen M. and Vera Nell Morgan McBride and lived in Denton County his entire life. After graduating from Denton High School in 1959 and Draughon's Business College in 1962, he married Carol Kutzer on May 31, 1963.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator on every major construction job in the North Texas area such the 635 interchange, DFW Airport, I-35W, Central Expressway, Hwy. 114, Hwy. 121, the boat ramps at Lake Ray Roberts, Hwy. 380, George Bush Turnpike, I-20 and I-30. As a tremendously talented metal worker, he built gates, pipe and cable fences, ornamental iron fence and arbor, trellises, trailers, smokers and light posts. He enjoyed making his pickups look really fancy, being outdoors, using his tractors, being in his shop, using his "valuable metal stash" to create useful things, traveling with Carol, teaching his boys, learning new things, doing things for other people, and his livestock. He never met a stranger, even when traveling in foreign lands.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 24, 2009, from 3 to 5 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Funeral service will be Monday, Mary 25, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors with the Rev. Jim Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Cooper Creek Cemetery where Max Marrs will play the bag pipes. Pallbearers will be Bobby Morris, Don Davis, Jim Foster, Herman Green, Joe Silva and Eric Alm.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; two sons, David K. McBride and Wesley M. McBride; two daughters-in-law; four grandchildren; one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law; one aunt; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
