Ethel Dalby was born July 16, 1904 at Exeter, Nebraska to Albert and Maude (Hewitt) Ryan and died March 13, 1989 at the Valley County Hospital in Ord, Nebraska at the age of 84.
She was raised at Exeter, where she began her education and attended one year of high school before the family moved to Arcadia where Ethel graduated in 1923.
She married Thomas Dalby September 23, 1925 at Julesburg, Co. They farmed in the Pleasant Valley area in Valley County for a number of years before moving to the Davis Creek area, where they lived for 25 years. In 1972 they moved to Arcadia where they retired. Thomas died in 1985.
Survivors include three sons, Raymond Dalby of Columbus; Charles Dalby of Scribner, Willis Dalby of North Platte, one daughter, Gayle Stevenson of Waldon, Co, 15 grandchildren and 30 Great Grandchildren, one brother Donald Ryan of Tacoma, WA, two sisters Lucille Johnson of Forest Grove, OR and Dorothy Sherbeck of Wickett, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, two infant brothers and an infant sister.
Funeral services were held Thursday March 16, 1989 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel with Rev. Donald Studley officiating. The organist was LaDonna Studley and the singers were Lynn Cusimano and Richard Roberts. Pall Bearers were Tony McCarville, David Dalby, Gary Dalby, Danny Wyers, Lindy Smith and Jim Dalby. Burial was in the Arcadia Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Arcadia Rescue Unit. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
