BASCO
MRS. CATHARINE DOTY
...Relatives and friends are mourning the loss of Mrs. Catharine Doty, who passed to her heavenly rest Wednesday morning, Feb. 10, 1915, and in her death there passes out of the life of this community one of those sturdy pioneers upon whose lives are woven the very fabric of our present day commonwealth.
...Mrs. Doty's family located in Indiana at an early day and Mrs. Doty was born at Bridgeport, Ind., Aug. 17, 1844. She came to this locality with her parents in 1849, and this has been her home ever since. She was married to Morton Doty, who died April 2, 1909. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. E. L. Williams of Basco and Mrs. Charles L. Steffy of Dallas City, and a son, J.G. Doty, of Bowling Green, Mo. She is survived also by two sisters, Mrs. J.W. Staples, of Fowler, Kas., and Mrs. H.E. Wade, of Edgeville, Mo. One sister, Mrs. Naoma Knott, and two brothers A.J. and C.W. Richards, having preceded her in death.
...At an early age, Mrs. Doty united with the church and all of her life was indicative of her abiding faith and reliance in God. She was a member of Basco Methodist Episcopal Church, and a genuine Christian in heart and mind. Mrs. Doty has demonstrated time and again that she looked on the bright side of life and it was this disposition which she cultivated in her every day life.
...Mrs. Doty worshiped her children and never failed to do all that was in her power to assist them in what ever manner she could. She leaves a host of relatives and friends to mourn over her death.
...Funeral services were conducted from the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.L. Williams, on Friday afternoon at 2:30, by Rev. A.O. Smith, pastor of Basco M.E. Church. Interment took place at the south cemetery.
