Obituary J.H. Duncan
World War II Hero Dies
Funeral services for Jessie H. Duncan probably one of this area's most decorated World War II soldiers, were held at 2 p.m. today at West End Baptist Church. Duncan died at 10:10 p.m. Saturday at Western Baptist Hospital. He was 41 years old and resided at 504 S. 11th St. During the war Duncan took part in the French Morrocan, Tunisia and Sicily campaigns, the Normandy landing, Northern France and Rhineland campaigns. He was authorized to wear the European, African and Mediterannean ribbons, six battle stars, American Defence Service Medal, Good Condut Ribbon, district unit citation, Bronze Star, Infantryman's badge and the Purple Heart. He was wounded in Germany on December 16, 1944. He was a member of the American Legion, Chief Paduke Post. Survivors include his wife Mrs. Arbutius Beeler Duncan: father George Duncan of Barlow: two daughters Mrs. Ethel Stahr of Chicago and Miss Doris Duncan of St. Louis: two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Walsh of Paducah and Mrs. Maurine Barnwell of Cario: four brothers, Guy Duncan and H.M. Duncan both of Barlow, Berle Duncan of Cario and Page Duncan of Riggins, Idaho: several nieces and nephews. Funeral rites were conducted by the Rev. W. Casey. The American Legion conducted graveside services at Maplelawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jack Walsh, Joe Walsh, Jim Walsh, Dick Armond, R.W. Crayne, Jerry Webb and Danny Burnwell.
