B. F. Bare Stricken While Driving
the Mt. Morris and Waynesburg

Benjamin Bare, a well known and highly respected citizen of Kirby, this county, died here, Saturday afternoon, about five o'clock.

Mr. Bare was proprietor of the Waynesburg and Mt. Morris hack line and shortly before 1 p.m. drove to the home of W. D. Headlee, West College street, where he called for Mrs. Pozella Blaker, who was to be a passenger. Before leaving Headlee's he became suddenly ill and began vomiting. He thought it was only a temporary illness, however, and started to drive away, but had only reached Richhill street when he fell backward. Several persons came to his aid and Attorney J. L. Wood called Dr. G. M. Scott. Mr. Bare was then taken to the hospital, where he gradually grew weaker and death occurred four hours later. His ailment was pronounced paralysis.

He was 55 years of age and was born at Kirby, being a son of Davis Bare. He was a successful teacher in the Greene county schools for about thirty years, and was once a candidate for county superintendent. For the past five years he had owned the Waynesburg and Mt. Morris hack line.

He was a member of the M.E. church at Kirby, and has been superintendent of the Sunday school for 30 years. He was also a member of the P.O.S. of A. He had filled different township offices, in politics being a Democrat.

He is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Flora Connor, and four children: Mrs. Charles F. Bare, of Waynesburg; Mrs. A. L. Hartley, of Mt. Morris; Mrs. George Hunnell, of Franklin township and Paul C. Bare, of Kirby.

One brother, J. W. Bare, of Washington, and a sister, Mrs. P. F. Pitcock, of Kirby, also survive. The funeral was held on Monday at 10 a.m. from the M. E. church at Kirby, services being conducted by the Rev. J. W. Lowry. Interment at Mt. Morris cemetery.
