Margie N. Adamson Higginbotham
September 21, 1931 - May 12, 2010
Margie N. Higginbotham passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at her home in Columbus, Kan.
Margie was born in Columbus, Kan. on September 21, 1931 to Ernest and Lavon (Slover) Adamson. The family then moved to Searcy, Ark. where she attended grade school. They returned to Columbus where she graduated from CCRHS in 1950. She entered St. Luke's Nursing School in Kansas City Mo. She then started her nursing career at Maude Norton Hospital for the next 17 years.
She married Albert Hoskins in 1951. They had one son, Alan Hoskins. Her husband Albert passed away in 1963.
She later married Harold Higginbotham in 1966. They had two children, Julie and Andy Higginbotham. They made their home in Rock Falls, Sterling, Ill. for the next 20 years where she continued her nursing career at Walnut Manor Nursing Home. Harold passed away in 1989. She then returned to Columbus to be close to family members.
Margie was considered the Matriarch of the large Adamson Family. She was the family historian and at many times the glue that held the family together. She was given many trials that would have made any other person want to just give up. She survived many personal loses in her life. She survived polio, breast cancer not just once but twice, diabetes that ravaged her body resulting in the loss of a leg. She was given the Energizer Bunny nickname by her family. No matter what life dealt her, she never gave in to it until the very end. Her passion in life besides her family was knitting and reading. She was not able to do either the last several years as she was nearly blind as a result of her diabetes,
Margie was preceded in death by her parents: two husbands, Albert Hoskins and Harold Higginbotham; a son Alan Hoskins; a grandson, Adam Hoskins; three sisters, Peggy and Wilma Adamson and Aileen Mack, and two brothers Norman Adamson and Ray Adamson.
Survivors include a daughter, Julie Higginbotham of Watertown, Wis.; a son, Andrew Higginbotham of Mineral, Ill.; a sister, Marcia Mathers of Columbus; three grandsons, Nathan, Cullen and Andrew; a granddaughter Riley, three granddaughters in the local area, and several nieces and nephews.
As per Margie's request her body has been taken for cremation and no funeral arrangements are being held. Private family internment will be in Edgmand Cemetery at a later date. A celebration of Margie's life was held on Saturday, May 15 at the home of her sister, Marcia Mathes.
