|Birth: ||Dec. 24, 1810|
|Death: ||Jun. 13, 1897|
Died, at his home Sunday evening, June 13, '97, at 4:20 o'clock, Jacob Meeks, age 86 years.
Deceased had been in ill health some time past, having the misfortune to break his leg a few weeks ago, and this together with old age, hastened his death. He was an old soldier, and was respected by all. Funeral services were held at the house in the 4th ward this afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Derry of the Christian church, after which the remains were laid to rest in the city cemetery. Although it is hard to give up our loved ones we can rest assured that they are much happier where death nor sorrow can never enter.
Jacob was survived by the four daughters.
Parents were Elisha Meek, Sr. and Mary (Short) Meek.
He married a French lady, Jane McCracken.
