David R. Cripe, 71, of Eau Claire died Sunday, October 16, at Clairemont Nursing and Rehabilitation after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Dave was born on June 14, 1934, to the late Merrill Cripe and Evelyn Anderson. He married Doris Nelson on November 27, 1953, in Glendale, Calif. He began his career servicing airplanes at Morey Airport, during which time he received his pilotís license. He then went on to L.G. Arnold for 19 years, where he worked as a pilot. He was also involved in building bridges in addition to carrying out duties as a heavy-duty mechanic and becoming shop foreman. When L.G. Arnold closed he went on to Tree Line; and from there, he completed his career at Sena Blacktop, retiring in 1994.
Over the years, Dave enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and cookouts with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; daughters, Peggy (Don) Olson of Eau Claire, Kathy (John) Kurth of Eau Claire, Diane Miniatt of Cushing, Wis., and Tressa (Charlie) Loew of Eau Claire; brothers, Donald (Lorraine) Cripe of Eau Claire, Gordon (Elizabeth) Cripe of Chetek, Kenneth (Sharon) Cripe of Chippewa Falls, Bill Cripe of Sartell, Minn.; and a sister, Carol (James) Edwards of Sartell, Minn.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by son, Thomas; mother, Evelyn; father, Merrill; mother- and father-in-law, Ted and Jorun Nelson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2005, at Ascension Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Paul Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, town of Washington.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Smith Funeral Chapel.
