Walter M. Banks
Walter M. Banks, 92, of 600 Westview Drive, Piqua, died at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at his residence.
He was born March 5, 1917, in Darke County, to the late Charles C. and Ida (Heins) Banks. He married Dorothy M. Sanders on Jan. 19, 1941, in Greenville; she survives.
Mr. Banks also is survived by a son, Gary (Dixie) Banks of Piqua; two grandchildren, Julie (Jim) Brown and Thomas (Carol) Banks; two step-grandchildren, Mike (Barbara) Hickey and Mark Hickey; and seven great-grandchildren.
Walter worked four years as a liaison engineer for Lear Inc. prior to serving in the U.S. Navy during World
War II. Upon returning home, he began his career working for the Dunson Auto Supply Co. of Piqua, retiring as store manager. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and enjoyed cars.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Shreffler officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Versailles. Visitation will be from 12-1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
