Carolyn Elaine Hyland of Lompoc died Wednesday, September 7, 2011 in Los Angeles at the age of 70.
Carolyn was born January 6, 1941 to Evan and Winnie Taylor in Colinga, California. A graduate of Colinga High School she worked as a paint and decorating specialist at Pacific Home Improvement in San Luis Obispo. She also worked for a brief period in jewelry repair and fabrication at Stinn Jewelry.
She is survived by her husband of 15 years Art Hyland of Lompoc, her brother Bill Taylor, and two nieces Elain Taylor of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Heidi Taylor of Santa Maria.
There will be a visitation at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary at 9 am on Monday, September 19, followed by a graveside funeral service in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery at 10 am.

Carolyn E. Hyland, 70, of Lompoc passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 in Los Angeles, California after a lengthy illness.
Caroyln was born on January 6, 1941 to Evan and Winnie Taylor in Bakersfield, California. She was raised and educated in Coalinga, California. She married Cecil A Mingus on June 5, 1968 and together ran Mingus Paint Supply. They moved to Baywood Park and started a successful business called Western Desert Arts. She was a talented artist who loved oil painting, watercolor, ceramics, and clay sculpture work among others. She was involved with local galleries and art shows, Audubon Society, local Chumash excavations, bird watching, history, science, geology, anthropology to name a few. She also worked at Pacific Home Improvement in San Luis Obispo and was their expert paint matching/mixing specialist. Cecil died September 30, 1986. Carolyn married Arthur E Hyland October 24, 1987 and moved to Lompoc. There she learned jewelry repair and fabrication, and opened up her own jewelry repair business in the Holloway Building, continued painting and doing ceramic/sculpture work, participated in a mural contest, and attended all local art shows.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of 15 years, Arthur Hyland, brother, Bill Taylor, nieces and nephews; Elaine Taylor, Heidi Ashby, Lynnette Thompson, Cheramie Ortiz, Plonnie Jenson, Tylyn Bourdeau, Preston Taylor, Charles Hoag, Evonne Dufrense, Wallie Pierce, Peggy La Grone, Tamsen Cain and Trina Obryan. Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents Evan and Winnie Taylor, her sister Teddy Hoag, and her first husband Cecil A Mingus.
A brief viewing and vigil service will be held at the Chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 9am, followed by a graveside service at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery at 10am. Arrangements are in the care of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. www.starbucklind.com
