Josiah enlisted as a private into Company A of the 4th New York Heavy Artillery on Sep 7, 1862 at Brewster, New York. He served until June 10, 1865 and was discharged at Alexandria, Virginia.
He entered the Togus Home on February 12, 1896, with identified disabilities of let thigh fracture (1876), rheumatism, and senility. Josiah remained at the home until his death from pneumonia.
He had been a shoemaker in Danbury, Connecticut and identified next of kin James Davis of Yonkers, New York.
