Forbes, a son of the late James and Mary Moffitt Forbes, was a retired farmer. He was a member of Russ Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Etta Hoilman Forbes; three daughters, Florence Dowell and Judy Honeycutt, both of Bakersville, and Mary Dellinger of Skyland; four sons, Ray Forbes of Hanover, Pa., Earl Forbes Jr., Ralph and Carroll Forbes, all of Bakersville; a brother, Edd Forbes of Bakersville; and eight grandchildren.
Services are Tuesday in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home. The Rev. Bob McCourry officiated. Burial was in Russ Memorial Cemetery.
