He entered active duty on 31 Aug 1917. As a 1st Lieutenant, he embarked from New York, NY, on 3o Jul 1918 aboard the SS Megantic. He was listed as a "surplus officer" of the 321th Air Service Squadron. He arrived back in New York on 11 Dec 1918 aboard the SS Adriatic.

Leonard J. Bachinski, 86, died at 5:30 Wednesday, March 1, at the Grand Army Home for Veterans, King, where he was a resident since 1 Jul 1939, coming there from Milwaukee.

He was born 23 Aug 1885 in Milwaukee, where he was married 15 Aug 1928 to Martha Osowski, who is his only survivor.

He was a veteran of World War I.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 Monday afternoon, March 8, at the Grand Army Home Chapel with the Rev Donal Bazinski, Catholic Chaplain, officiating.

Burial was in the Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, King.
