Myrtle Grimes of 404 E. 7th Street, Irving. Texas. Died Friday at St Paul Hospital. Mrs. Beard was the widow of Dr. John L. Beard, Superintendent of Schools for the Irving ISD from 1949 to 1956. Mrs. Beard was a noted church and civic leader in Irving and Dallas since their move to Irving in 1949. Mrs. Beard was born in Tom Green County, Texas. December 28,1901. She graduated from Sterling City High School and attended North Texas State Teachers College in Denton. She taught school in Childress, Wellington and Kingsville, Texas. After her move to Irving was very active in various church and civic duties.
Mrs. Beard was a member and officer of many organizations including Irving Ladies Lion Group, Texas Pen Women, Dallas Writers Club, 20th Century Book Review Club, Irving Book Review Club, Beau Art Club of Dallas, Garden and Arts Association, Twilight Garden Club and the Dallas Friday Forum, Delta Kappa Gamma, Methodist Hospital Auxiliary, United Methodist Women, Irving and North Texas Conference, United Christian Women, Eastern Star of Coleman Chapter, Delta Arts Club and Frank Reaugh Art Club, in addition Mrs. Beard was a delegate to the General Conference of Methodist Churches.
Survivors include her son Lewis A. Beard of Dallas, and granddaughters Kemberly Beard of DeSoto, Carol Lee Beard and Lesley Ann Beard of Lancaster. Pallbearers are J. Leonard Pike, Charles B. Turner, Herbert A. Cooper, Richard C. Bifchofhausen, Derol Todd and John T. Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be the Administrative Board of the First United Methodist Church of Irving and the members of Mrs. Beards Share group.
