A native of Cleveland County, NC (Washington Community) he was born on March 14, 1921 to the late Sam Henderson Webber and Rossie Rudisill Webber. He was a graduate of John Chavis High School, Class of 1940. He joined the United States Army in 1942 serving until 1945 when he became ill. In recognition of his service he received an honorable discharge. Following his discharge Elisha attended North Carolina A&T College and graduated with a degree in Tailoring.
First Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church was Elisha's church home for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Trustee Ministry, Chair of the Finance Ministry, and Treasurer of the Church for more than 30 years. He was formally honored by the church on October 13, 2002, which was declared Elisha R. Webber Day.
Until he became unable to participate, Elisha was also a proud and active member of the Free and Accepted York Rite Masons, Friendship Lodge #18 in Asheville, NC. During his years as a member he became a Royal Arch Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the Consistory where he received his 32nd degree. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Heroines of Jericho.
In honor of his time in the service Elisha also maintained a membership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars where he reminisced with others who served.
Elisha was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte Webber and 11 brothers and sisters. Left to mourn is his son, Mr. Charles Webber, and his daughter, Mrs. Stacey Beamon (husband, Stennis Beamon) of Asheville, and 4 granddaughters: Nicole Webber and Danielle Webber of Asheville, NC, Ashley Webber of Greensboro, NC, and Shelby Webber, also of Asheville, NC; 6 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a loving sister, Verna Ricker of Kings Mountain, NC.
Services will be held Monday, Noon at Nazareth First Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Charles R. Mosley will officiate, burial will be in WC State Veterans Cemetery.
