Frances Rebecca "Fannie" Gary was born on 1 September 1841 in Lowndes County, Alabama, to William Leonidis Gary and his wife Frances Elizabeth Satterwhite. She was the youngest of four children; her father died when she was eleven.
Fannie married Col Robert Haden Abercrombie Sr on 11 January 1860. They appeared on the 1860 US Census at Macon County, Alabama with $1000 of real estate and $4000 personal estate. On the 1870 Macon County Census, they had three children, $4500 of real estate, and $2000 personal.
Robert and Fannie had six children: Robert Haden Jr, Frances Haden "Fannie", Annie Eliza "Ann", Newton, Robert Lee, and Thomas Gary. Three of their sons died in infancy; the fourth died young.
Robert was wounded in action during the Civil War and later practiced law.
Fannie Gary Abercrombie died, 27 November 1912, aged 71, and was buried at Tuskegee City Cemetery in Tuskegee, Alabama.
