|Death: ||Oct. 25, 1893|
The son of David & Catherine Pye or Pie and husband of Priscilla Nunemaker, whom he married February 16, 1854, in Carlisle. He stood 5' 4" tall.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Carlisle July 25, 1862, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 15 as a private with Co. G, 130th Pennsylvania Infantry. Hospitalized at Bolivar Heights, (West) Virginia, for illness October 27, 1862, and listed as a deserter to date November 18, 1862, but returned to the hospital. Apparently returned to duty at Fredericksburg, Virginia, but was re-hospitalized and did not rejoin the regiment until May 17, 1863, and then only to receive his honorable discharge with the company on May 21. His lieutenant described him as "a quiet, inoffensive man [who] . . . was off duty more than he was on." Nonetheless, he also served with Weaver's Independent Pa Cav September 1864 - August 4, 1865, a unit that served as Gen. Darius Couch's bodyguard.
David signed his name both "Pye," as he is listed in the company register of the 130th Pa, and "Pie" as on his tombstone.
