Katherine A. Coleman
READFIELD - Katherine A. Coleman, 54, of Route 17, and formerly of Riverside Drive, Augusta, died Saturday at the home of her mother, Mrs. Dorothy R. Gates, following a long illness.

She was born in Augusta, Dec. 8, 1928, the daughter of Ernest H. and Dorothy Regan Gates.

Mrs. Coleman was a graduate of Cony High School, class of 1947 and the Sisters Hospital School of Nursing, Waterville, in 1950.

She began her nursing career at the Augusta State Hospital, where she worked for two years before entering the Navy Nurse Corps in January 1965. She served her country until August 1956, retiring as a Lieutantant junior grade. Her duty stations included Camp Pendelton, Calif, and Quonset Point, R.I. She recently retired from the Veterans Administration Medical and Regional Office Center at Togus after 13 years of service.

She was a communicant of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Augusta.

She is survived by her mother of Readfield, one son, David Coleman of Stuart, Fla.; four daughters, Mrs. James (Patricia) Freeman of Bloomington, Ind., Mrs. Michael (Rebecca) Maxim of Bangor, Mrs. Larry (Elizabeth Kay) Johnson of Antoich, Calif., and Barbara Coleman of Stuart, Fla.; three brothers, E. Hubert Gates of Winthrop, Lawrence Gates of Princeton, La., and David Gates of Laconia, N.H.; four sisters, Mrs.Charles (Jaqueline) Reichert of Framingham, Mass., Mrs Frank (Barbara) Lombardo of Warren, R.I., Mrs Gerard (Norma) Arbour of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Mrs. John (Gloria) McAuley of Augusta; one grandson, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friend may visit today from 2-4 and 7-9 at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 3 p.m., Tuesday, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Burial will be in the East Readfield Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Kennebec Valley Medical Center, Oncology Dept., 6 East Chestnut St., Augusta, 04330.
