George was the only son of George C. and Elizabeth Betner Handy. He had an older sister, Betty. His mother was from a good-size family most from Germany. I can imagine many family gatherings with wonderful food. His father was one of five sons and one daughter. His Handy grandparents were from Canada. It's likely the cousins got to visit in Canada.
George married Margaret Mills from Lansing on 05 Feb 1908. Margaret, or Dama, as she was called by her only grandchild, had her hands raising three children while her husband was off to war. In fact, she and the children lived with her parents for a time.
George was a young man when he died not even living to she his children marry or meet his grandchild. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. His wife would join him in death; as they missed much of each others lives.
