Mrs. Vrooman Rites Held Thursday P.M.
Native of Chase Mills and Resident of Norwood 23 Years – Three Times Married, A Nurse After Death of Last Husband
The funeral of Mrs. Isabel Hamilton Vrooman, who died at her home on Park street late Tuesday night, was held from the home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Paul E. Nelson of the Congregational church officiating. Burial was made at Raymondville. Mrs. Vrooman was 88 years old and had resided in this village the past 23 years. Her death was due to infirmities of age.
Mrs. Vrooman was born Nov. 11 1850, at Chase Mills, daughter of Theodore and Carolyn Hamilton. On Sept. 30, 1886, she was married to Simon Babcock, owner of a Raymondville butter factory. Mr. Babcock died May 27, 1899. One son, Horace S. died in 1921.
Mrs. Vrooman was later married to Alva G. Lockwood, a scientist and world traveler, who died a few years after the marriage. His widow then joined the staff of the Woodstock hospital, Woodstock, Ont., where she later was married to Dr. William Vrooman staff physician, who died several years ago.
Mrs. Vrooman until her last illness served in Norwood, Norfolk and nearby communities as a trained nurse. About five years ago she was forced to give up active practice because of ill health.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Peason of Madrid and Mrs. Catherine Winslow of Philadelphia, Pa., a brother, Joseph Hamilton of Malone; three granddaughters, Jean Babcock and Marjorie Babcock of Norwood, with whom she made her home and Mrs. Audrey Wescott of Malone, and two stepdaughters, Mrs. Hiram H. Atwater, Massena, and Mrs. Elmer A. Forrester, Louisville.

Mrs. Vrooman, 88, Buried Thursday
Services for Mrs. Isabelle Lockwood Vrooman, 88, who died at 10 p.m. Tuesday in Norwood, following an illness of 16 months, were held at the home, 47 Park street, at 2 Thursday. Rev. Paul E. Nelson officiated and burial was in Raymondville cemetery.
She was born in Chase Mills Nov. 11, 1850, a daughter of Nelson and Caroline Hamilton. A trained nurse, she was widely known in this section through her work for many years. She was three times married . On Sept. 30, 1886, she was married to Simon Babcock, Raymondville butter factory proprietor, who died in 3899. A few years later she became the bride of Alva J. Lockwood, scientist, archeologist and world traveler, who died within a short time. Her last husband was Dr. Wm. Vrooman, a staff physician at the hospital in Woodstock, Ont., where she met while serving as a nurse there.
Mrs. Vrooman was active as a nurse until four years ago. On her 81st birthday she had aided in the delivery of 81 children.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Pearson, Madrid; and Mrs. Katherine Winslow, Philadelphia, Pa., a brother, Joseph Hamilton, Malone; three granddaughter Jean and Marjorie Babcock, with whom she resided, and Mrs. Audrey Reynolds Westcott, Malone; and two stepdaughters, Mrs. Elmer A. Forrester, Louisville, and Mrs. Hiram H. Atwater, Massena.
A son, Harold S. [error on name] Babcock, by her first marriage, died in 1921.
