Listed as residing in Norwood, New York, on 1890 Roster. Living in Potsdam, New York, on 1890 list of Civil War veterans in St. Lawrence County and on 1920 Federal census. Died 6/14/1922. An obituary in The Potsdam Herald-Recorder of 6/16/1922 gives the date of his death as 6/7/1922 and reported he was practically a life long resident of Norwood…a veteran of the Civil War and a Justice of the Peace…Judge Bailey as he was familiarly called was well known in Potsdam and was a member of the Town Board for years. The 1898 report of the New York State Comptroller list him as a Special Agent in the Department of Excise at an annual salary of $1,300. Buried in the Riverside Cemetery at Potsdam (Norwood), New York. Granted an invalid pension in 1873. Member of H. T Martyne Post GAR #346 (Canton). The Story of Norwood, N.Y. (Susan C. Lyman, 1995) mentions among Civil War veterans Hollis H. Bailey who had been confined in the infamous Andersonville prison.
