LUBBOCK - Aubrey D. "Coot" Talley, 89, formerly of the Shep Community in South Taylor County, died Saturday, July 1, 2006. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Caps Baptist Church in Abilene with the Rev. Kenneth Jones officiating. Burial will be in Shep Cemetery in Shep by Winters Funeral Home of Winters. Mr. Talley was born April 8, 1917, in Shep to William Thomas Talley and Frances Day Talley, the 10th of 11 children. He attended the Shep Community School. He married Ava Allred on Dec. 23, 1939, in Taylor County. They lived in Amarillo from 1952 until 1973 when they returned to Taylor County. He was a retired farmer and plumber. He was an avid fisherman and sang tenor in the Happy Hearts Gospel Quartet. He was a member of the Shep Troubadours. He was a Baptist.He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 16, 1999.Survivors include a daughter, Lynda Squires of Lubbock; a son, Glynn Talley and wife Carolyn Rudy of Barrington, N.H.; a sister, Eve Jolly of Abilene; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials be to Vista Care Hospice, 1717 Norfolk Ave., Lubbock, TX 79416.
