William (Bill) G. Althoff, 97, of Hankinson, ND, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2007, under the care of Riveredge Hospice at his son and daughter-in-law's home, Hankinson, ND.

Funeral mass will be Saturday, August 11, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Philip's Catholic Church, Hankinson, ND. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Hankinson. Visitation will be Friday, August 10, 2007, from 4:00 p.m until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at the Frank Family Funeral Home, Hankinson, ND. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

William Althoff was born April 29, 1910, to Frank and Mary (Wagner) Althoff in southwestern Minnesota. At the age of 3 his family moved to Mooreton, ND. He grew up and received his education in the Mooreton - Barney township and was a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Mooreton. On August 28, 1934, he was united in marriage to Della Mertes at St. Peter & Paul's Catholic Church, Mantador, ND. They made their home in the Mooreton-Mantador area until they retired in Hankinson, ND, in 1966.

Bill had many firsts in the area as putting up a Harvestore Silo and a dairy milking parlor and owning a diesel tractor. He enjoyed bowling, golf and playing cards and traveled many years seeing sights and visiting friends and relatives. Bill was also on the Hankinson City Council for many years and Mantador School Board, a member of St. Philip's Catholic Church serving as an usher. He belonged to the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Knights of Columbus. He was also quite a sports enthusiast following the Hankinson Pirates, he even received a valuable fan appreciation award.

Bill is survived by his wife Della at St. Gerard's Nursing Home, Hankinson, ND; their children, William F. (Lavonne) Althoff, Hankinson, Janice (Wayne) Ward, Mooreton, Arnold (Charlene) Althoff, Hankinson, Raymond Althoff, Mantador, Karen Bowman, Ft. Hills, AZ and Marvin (Susan) Althoff, West St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, Todd (Tammi), Paul (Rose) and David (Linda) Althoff, Pam (Kerry) Lindemann, Allen (Melinda) Ward, Sherri (Pat) McFarren and Brenda (Troy) Klosterman, Kari (Nick) Foertsch, Beth (Ben) Mauch and Crystal Althoff, Meghann, Patrick and Sean Bowman, Christopher and Nathan Althoff; along with 20 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Tony (Betty) Althoff, Bend, OR; 3 sisters, Rita (Ed) Mauch, Hankinson, Maryann (Jack) Anderson, Wahpeton, ND, Sr. Rose Alice Althoff, St. Paul, MN; and 1 sister-in-law, MaryAnna Althoff, Wahpeton.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Althoff; brothers, Ed and Sylvester Althoff; and sisters, Bertilla Lingen, Sr. Borromeo and Frances Baldner.
