Carolyn Jean (Peers) Bonenberger was born on August 22, 1943 in Dexter, Iowa to Donald and Betty Peers. When she was three years old, Jeanne moved with her mother to Des Moines, Iowa. At the age of 16, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska to live with her father. Jeanne graduated from Central High School in Omaha, NE.

After high school, Jeanne met Pete Bonenberger. Jeanne always said that he rode in on his white horse and swept her away. The two married in 1962 and because she was so young had the ceremony in Council Bluffs, Iowa due to Nebraska law. Together, they had a son named Don. The family lived in Omaha until 1964 and moved to Sioux Falls in January of 1965. They have lived in the area ever since.

Jeanne can be described as a very giving, loving, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was very generous of her time and affection. You could often times find her volunteering with many local organizations, charities, and businesses. McCrossan Boys Ranch was one organization that was close to Jeanne. She spent so much time volunteering and assisting at the ranch they named a horse "Jeanne" after her. Jeanne also gave to LifeSource, Hope Lutheran Church, Disabled American Veterans, Honor Flight, and the Humane Society to name a few organizations. Jeanne also loved to assemble care packages and send them to local and national individuals in need.

Though she was very busy giving her time and energy to others, her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the apple of her eye. Jeanne never missed a softball game that her granddaughters participated in. She was always the first to arrive and the last to leave, the best cheerleader anyone could ask for. Jeanne was thrilled when her great grandchildren came along. She loved them so much she changed her license plate to read GGRANNY. Family was everything to her.

Jeanne loved to sew, quilt, and collect. She collected Holly Hobby, Hello Kitty, Anne Geddes, and Laurel Burch collectables. She had a soft spot for cats… cat jewelry, cat bags, and cat clothes. She also loved spending time with close friends, never missing a day of working out at the McKennan Fitness Center followed by coffee and fellowship at Bagel Boy.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 49 years, Pete; son, Don (Lisa) Bonenberger, Sioux Falls; granddaughters, Holly Westcott, Rebecca (Tyler) Ellis, Emily Bonenberger all of Sioux Falls; great grandchildren, Lily, Aiden, Sam, Campbell Carolyn; sister, Judie(Brad) Fogle, Cumming, GA.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her mother, Betty (Bud) Sherwood; father, Donald (Louise) Peers; brother, Chuck Sherwood.
