She attended Ursuline College and received a degree in medical technology. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Parish. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur & Mary Jenerose Brown Scherzer; two brothers, Edward Scherzer and Arthur "June" Scherzer; and a sister, Kathryn Braun. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Joseph Leslie Ballard, Jr.; three sons, Christopher Joseph "Chris" Ballard, Georgetown, Nicholas Ballard, Bardstown, and Victor Ballard, Louisville; two daughters, Angela Ballard, Bardstown, and Mary Beaven, Georgetown; four grandchildren; a brother, Norbert Scherzer, Louisville; and four sisters, Mary Sullivan, Eagle Lake, FL, Elizabeth Greenwald, Rita Oppel, and Marge Arehart, all of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was 11 a.m. Monday at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. The Rev. Joseph Batcheldor officiated.
