John Bauknecht, 72, 602 N. Fifth St., Martins Ferry, died Wednesday in Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling. He was born June 22, 1918 in Martins Ferry, a son of the late John and Mary Anna Davis Bauknecht.
He was a retired employee of Bethlehem Steel Co., Portage, Ind., a veteran of U.S. Army in World War II, a member of Portage Christian Church and Martins Ferry Eagles.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Russell, Herbert and Donald Bauknecht.
Surviving are his wife, Arlene Miller Lutz Bauknecht; a daughter, Dianna of Valparaiso, Ind.; a son, Leonard of LaPorte, Ind.; a step-daughter, Mrs. James (Mary) Markus of Martins Ferry; eight step-sons, Don, Richard, Robert,David, Thomas and Albert Lutz, all of Martins Ferry, John Lutz of Phoenix, Az., and Mark Lutz of Columbus; a sister, Nina Mae Bauknecht of St. Clairsville; four brothers, Ernest of Portage, Kenneth of Brilliant, James of St. Albans, W. Va., and Raymond of Dillonvale.
Friends will be received at the Engle Funeral Home, 2700 Willow Creek Drive, Portage, Ind., 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, where services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial follows in Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. Local arrangements by Heslop Funeral Home, Martins Ferry.
