Captain George Lincoln Andrews, was born February 12, 1918, in Washington, D.C., son of John J. and Evangaline Andrews. Being the son of a US Marine he attended different schools throughout the U.S. He graduated from high school at Vallejo, California in June 1936. Attended Drew Prep School, San Francisco, before entering West Point with a Presidential Appointment. George also received an appointment to the Naval Academy after entering West Point. He received two more appointments, one from Senator Hiram Johnson, and one from his local representative, Hon. Frank Buck, giving him two awards to each academy. Graduating with the class of 1941. Andrews married Betty Mason at New York, 12 June 1941. His 1st assignment was Fort Ord, California. After a short time there, he was reordered to the Philippine Islands. He sailed on the T. H. Bliss out of San Francisco on 6 December 1941 soon however returning to Treasure Island, California. His daughter was born 15 April 1942 at Pasadena, California. Assigned now to the 54th Signal Battalion he served two years in Iceland then was ordered to England. Shortly after D Day, he left for France and Germany, where he earned two battle stars; one being in the famous Battle of the Bulge. While serving in the E.T.O., he was attached to the Airborne Army. Captain Andrews died in a plane crash near Hachita, New Mexico. Link leaves beside his wife and child, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Andrews, Sr., 1st Lieut. John J. Andrews, Jr., U.S.M.C., and his twin sisters.
