Vernal woman's death under investigation
Investigation is still continuing into the asphyxiation death of Norma LaRue Haynes Carter, 53, of 431 West 400 South Vernal.
ACCORDING to Chief of Police Jock Jones, investigating officer Terry Orton responded to a call at approximately 1:30 a.m. Monday at the Carter residence, where he found Mrs. Carter in her car dead of suspected carbon monoxide posioning [sic].
Officer Orton accompanied the body to the University Medical Center in Salt Lake City Monday where an autopsy was performed. Death was confirmed by Mr. Orton as self-inflicted carbon monoxide poisoning.
MRS. CARTER was born October 25, 1921 in Sunnyside, Utah to Homer H. Haynes and Mable McMillen Haynes. She married Harvey Milton Knight September 1941 at Gusher. He died July 23, 1961. She married Morris P. Carter April 8, 1974 in Ely, Nevada. She was a telephone operator for the Vernal Mountain Bell office and a member of the Vernal LDS Eighth Ward.
Survivors include her husband, Vernal, one son and one daughter, H. Larry Knight of Salt Lake City; and Mrs. Don (Kathleen) Bailey, Brigham City; three step-children, Tim Carter, Fresno, California; Randy Carter, Anchorage, Alaska and Mrs. Jerry (Pam) Lenhart of Vernal; one sister, Genevieve Stanfill, Vernal; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services are Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Vernal Eighth Ward. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Thomson's Vernal Mortuary.

Services held for Larue Carter
Services for Norma Larue Haynes Knight Carter were held June 4 in the Vernal Eighth Ward Chapel. Bishop Gary B. Taylor was in charge.
TIM CARTER gave the family prayer in the mortuary. Mary Schaefermeyer played the prelude and postlude music. "That Wonderful Mother of Mine" was the opening song, sung by Danna Dee Smith and accompanied by Mrs. Schaefermeyer. Kenneth W. Tripp gave the invocation. Vaughn Hunsaker, Second Counselor, read the obituary and conducted the meeting. Harold McKee was the first speaker. "Going Home" was sung by Marva Lent and Lois Erickson, accompanied by Ruth Walker. Bishop Mac Holmes was the final speaker. Laura Dorius gave a reading of the 23rd Psalm. Floyd Dorius gave the benediction.
Interment was in the Vernal City Cemetery, under the direction of the Vernal Mortuary. Pallbearers were Jack Stanfill, Paul Stanfill, Mike Stanfill, Duane Wardle, Jay Richardson and Jerry Maynard. Duane Wardle dedicated the grave. Vernal Eighth Ward Relief Society was in charge of the flowers.
SPECIAL out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Dorius, Idaho; Anna Hooper, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle 0-Bray, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Carter, Joseph, Utah; Mary Fry, Paul Stanfill and Mr. and Mrs. Duane Wardle, Salt Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Carter, Caldwell, Idaho; Tim Carter, Fresno, California; and Jack Stanfill, Colorado.
