Robert J. Peckey, Sr., age 68, of Ladson, SC, died at 12:05 p.m., Monday, March 26, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC.
Born in Buffalo, NY on January 8, 1933, Mr. Peckey was raised and educated in Buffalo, NY. He served with the Buffalo, NY Police Department for many years, retiring in 1987.
In 1987, he moved to Ladson, SC where he began a second career with the MUSC Police Public Safety Division. Active in many community organizations, Mr. Peckey was a member of the Dorchester Masonic Lodge #369, Charleston Elks Lodge #242, Jessee Belle Shonk Order of the Eastern Star and the Charleston Fraternal Order of Police #5.
Beloved husband of Vera M. Norris Peckey; dear father of Patricia A. (William) Haga, Robert J. Jr. (Christine), Mary Ellen (Robert) Buckland, John E. (Mary Ann), Lawrence W. (Maria), James M. (Jill) and the late William J. Peckey I and William II; step-father of Sherry (Scott) Retzler and Brian (Susan) Craig; survived by 24 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; predeceased by one grandchild. Predeceased by his parents, John and Helen Peckey.
Calling hours from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the Nightengale Funeral Home, 1884 South Park Avenue, Buffalo, NY (near Tifft) where Masonic Services will be held Thursday evening at 6:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday morning, March 30 at 10 a.m. at Nightengale Funeral Home (Buffalo) with the Rev. William R. Bigelow officiating. Burial will take place in St. Matthew's Cemetery at the Garden of St. Luke, Gardenville, NY, Lot 147, Grave 2.
A memorial service is being planned in the Charleston area for a later date.
