LEIGH, Neb., Sep. 23. -
This afternoon Ed. Gross, a farm hand in the employ of Fred Herman, who lives three miles east of Leigh, committed suicide by placing the muzzle of a shot gun in his mouth and pulling the trigger. The young man brought Mr. Herman to the town this morning to take the train to Albion. Gross went to several places about town and settled several small bills, returned home at noon and partook of a hearty dinner, seemingly in the best of spirits.
He took the gun out and a few minutes afterwords [sic] was found dead. A note was found on the dead man's person reading: "Notice to my father - You may think I am a fool for doing this, but I think it is best. I did not do it on account of anyone".
Gross was engaged to be married soon to [name removed] and there is no apparent reason for his act. His parents reside on a farm near Clarkson.
