Douglas was the son of Robert Alcorn and Mary Jane Rice Helm, one of three known children: Christopher Thomas, Douglas Wymore and Robert Alcorn Helm Jr. Douglas Wymore married Mary Ann Howell on April 13, 1884 in Johnson County, Illinois. Douglas and Mary had seven known children: Claudius, Roy Raymond, Clarice Marie, Lloyd Lannes, Herbert Clarence, Verna Mae, and Mary Margaret. Douglas was the county State Attorney and an Illinois State Senator. Douglas and most of his family are buried in plot 5 in the IOOF Chosen Friends Cemetery which is beside, and to the left of the Masonic Cemetery in Metropolis. It is not the IOOF that is down the road and on the other side of the road.
