Gene passed away on Tues., May 17, 2011. He was 83.

Born in Ulan, OK on March 7, 1928 to Walter and Marie (Autrey) Blevins, Gene grew up and received his education in Indianola, OK. He joined the Air Force at the age of 17 and received an honorable discharge after two years of service.

On April 7, 1948, Gene and his high school sweetheart, Betty Davenport, married in McAlester, OK. They moved to California and their daughter, Janet, was born in Hollywood. Larry was no longer an only child, but the sibling of a future movie star.

In 1958 the family returned to Oklahoma and made Claremore their permanent home. Gene was employed with Meadow Gold Milk, Bond Bread and Otasco where he sold appliances. It was a natural transition into appliance repair and for 40 years he was a welcome sight in many a Claremore home when a refrigerator or washing machine was on the fritz.

Gene loved fishing and shared this passion with his grand and great grandchildren, teaching them all the secrets known to every serious fisherman. He also loved to travel and bought a travel trailer to make long trips more comfortable. One of their favorite destinations was Lake Eufaula.

A loving family man, Gene is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; his children, Larry Blevins and wife, Judy, of Jensen Beach, FL and Janet McKellips and husband, Dean, of Claremore; grandchildren Heather Blevins, Allen McKellips, both of Claremore, Jeremy Blevins of Ft. Worth, TX; and Adam McKellips and wife, Cassie, also of Claremore; eight great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
