Japheth Flood's parents were William and Hannah Flood. He married Sarah Jane (Alexander) on 12 May 1842 in Paris, Edgar County, Illinois. His children were:
William Thomas, Emily "Elizabeth", Mary Catherine, Lovina Adella, Hannah, Richard Harvey, Martha Jane, John Tiel, Celia Harriet "Hattie", Kathrean Priscilla "Kate", and Charley Mitchell.
He was a copper by occupation. A veteran of the Civil War, he joined the Union Army and was enrolled on 16 Feb 1865 at Olney, IL in Co. "C", 155th Regiment of Illinois Volunteer Infantry, to serve one year, and mustered into service as a Corporal on the 18 Feb 1865, Olney, IL. He was mustered out of the service 24 May 1865 at Tullahoma, Tennessee, due to chronic diarrhea from which he died two months later.
