Jacob Bruner was mustered into Company C of the 51st Pennsylvania Volunteers as a Private on March 25, 1865. In less than two months he was dead, dying at Alexandria, VA, on May 20, 1865. The Montgomery Ledger published on Pottstown, PA on June 6, 1865 published this obituary, "On the 20th of May, in Slough Hospital, Alexandria, VA, Jacob Bruner a member of Co. C 51st Pa. Volunteers, and son of William Bruner of Limerick Township, Montgomery County aged 16 years, 6 months and 13 days." The 1860 Federal Census for Limerick Township, Montgomery County, PA lists 12 year old Jacob Bruner residing with his parents William and Hannah on their farm. Jacob lived there along with his 4 brothers.
