RACINE, Wis. - James Delano Cronk, 76, of Racine passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Froedert Memorial Hospital in Milwaukee.

He was born in La Crosse on Oct. 15, 1933, to Warren and Clara (Chase) Cronk. Jim served his country with the U.S. Navy from 1955-57, with most of his duties taking place in New Jersey.

He married his loving wife, Beverly Skaff, at Christ Episcopal Church in La Crosse on Nov. 16, 1957, and had been married for 52 years. Jim was an employee of J.I. Case Co. in Racine for 34 years, where he worked at several Case plants and retired from the parts department in 1991.

As an avid outdoorsman, Jim loved deer and small-game hunting. His love of the outdoors began at a young age when he would go hunting with his father and brothers.

As time went on, he carried on the tradition with his own sons and grandson Rob. He always looked forward to opening day with much enthusiasm. He also enjoyed boating, fishing and playing cards with his friends at Asch's in Lake Park. Jim was a member of the Racine Loyal Order of Moose and Belle City Drifters camping group of Racine.

He took pleasure in rolling into numerous campgrounds with his "home on wheels." His youngest son, Rod, accompanied him on many ventures, with the group travelling all over. Jim loved the "Northwoods" and always wanted to return to the place he so loved - now he is finally home.

Jim will be greatly missed by his wife, Beverly, of Racine and their four children, Darlene (Matthew) DeLeon of Racine, Randall (Jean) Cronk of Somers, Wis., Carolyn (Kendrick) Hailey of Racine and Rodney (Tammie) Cronk of Racine. His nine grandchildren will also miss him dearly; Melissa and Tony, Robert and Stephanie, Nicole, Erin and Erica and Shawn and Shannon. His siblings; Charlotte Semlar, Calvin Cronk, Carol (William) Hanson and Thomas (Barb) Cronk, all of La Crosse, Dorothy Erickson of Onalaska, Walt (Sharon) Cronk of Abbotsford, Wis., Beth Treu of Montana, Shirley (Lloyd) Rhodes and Virginia (James) Treu, all of Sparta, and Mary (Eugene) Briedel of Racine, who have been exceptionally supportive throughout his life. He is further survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Franie Skaff of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., who are dearly appreciated for their help and support.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Esther Kolbo, Margie Mehlum and Gloria Cronk.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 19, at Christ Episcopal Church in La Crosse. The Rev. Patrick Augustine will officiate. Burial with military rites by the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 will be in at Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse. Friends may call on the family at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. and again at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be used in Jim's memory.
