NEW GLARUS - Garnet V. Arnes, age 88, of New Glarus, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at the home of her son surrounded by her loving family. Garnet was born on March 21, 1918, in New Glarus, the daughter of Peter and Lydia (Disch) Schindler.
She graduated from New Glarus High School, class of 1936. On June 17, 1937, she was united in marriage to Arthur Arnes at the Swiss United Church of Christ, New Glarus. Garnet was the hostess at the New Glarus Hotel until retiring
She had previously been employed at the New Glarus Bakery. She was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ, the Eagles Auxiliary, and the Glarner Homemakers Club.
Survivors include a son, Byron (Theresa) Arnes of North Prairie, Wis.; a daughter, Jean (Glenn) Schmidt of Fort Collins, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Vicki (Tom) Schleisner, Jodi (Christian) Arnes, Craig Arnes, Mark (Marissa) Schmidt, Kurt (Sarah) Schmidt, Nadia Czarniak, Nicholas Czarniak, and Natasha Czarniak; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Helen Schindler, Betty Arnes, and Mary Gilbertson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur, in l983; and two brothers, Harold and Sylvan Schindler.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at the SWISS UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, New Glarus. The Rev. Marlea Waber will officiate with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery.
