Mrs. Alma Gray, 82, formerly of 114 Ridgecrest Drive, Elizabethton, Tenn., died Friday, June 30, 2000, in the Camden Clark Hospital, Parkersburg, W.Va., following an extended illness.
Mrs. Gray was a native of Avery County, N.C., (Whaley community), and was the daughter of the late John and Texie Church McGuire, Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas M. Gray, Jr., on April 13, 1979, and by two sisters: Virginia McGuire and Sylvia Lane, by two brothers: Estill McGuire and Eustace McGuire.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Elizabethton, and was a homemaker. She was a past member of the John Carter Chapter of the D.A.R., serving as Past Regent. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hampton Chapter No. 470, serving as Past Worthy Matron. She was a life member of the Over Mountain Victory Trail Association and had served as Past Grand Marshall.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Carolyn and John E. Pace, Parkersburg, W.Va.; two sons and daughters-in-law: John W. (Wilb) and Ollie Gray, Jacksonville, Fla.; and Richard and Jo Ann Gray, Elizabethton, Tenn.; one sister, Gerlean Lattimer, Elizabethton; two brothers: John F. McGuire, Jr., and Russell McGuire, both of Cleveland, Ohio; two grandsons: Thomas M. Gray III, Elizabethton and Brian E. Pace, Cincinnati, Ohio; three granddaughters: Tammy Gray Daily, Atlanta, Ga.; Tracie Gray McCloud, Elizabethton; and Kimberly Ann Pace, Fairfax, Va.; one great-granddaughter, Allison Gray, Elizabethton; two great-grandsons: Jesse Gregg, Atlanta, Ga.; and Skylar McCloud, Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews.

GRAY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Alma Gray, 82, formerly of 114 Ridgecrest Drive, Elizabethton, who died Friday, June 30, 2000, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2000, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bruce Hendrich and Mr. Alberto Santiago officiating. Music will be under the direction of Glenn Church and Gene Church. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, 2000, in the Johnson Roan View Cemetery at Roan Mountain, with the Rev. Brent Seals officiating. Active pallbearers will be Brian Pace, Thomas Gray III, Tammy Daily, Tracie McCloud, Kimberly Pace, Don Gray, Perry Gray, Jimmy Hooker, Clifford McGuire, Carroll Gray and Bobby Lattimer. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, members of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hampton Chapter No. 470, members of the Over Mountain Victory Trail Association, and Angel and Bonnie Jo Cordell. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2000, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home. The family, friends, ministers and pallbearers will meet Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home chapel to go in procession to the cemetery.
