|Death: ||Aug. 6, 1945|
Born in England Elsie was perhaps the fifth of 11 children born to Englishman Frederick William Davis and Anna Cunningham from New Brunswick, Canada.
Elsie was the first of their children born in England when her parents settled in Worthing after almost a decade in Massachusetts.
She was first married at age 21 to the Rev. Roderick Bain Mackenzie, parish priest at Sudbrooke, Lincolnshire, a widower with no children.
The couple had two - Hilda Cunningham Mackenzie, a nurse at Middlesex Hospital [photo], and Dr. Kenneth Fitzgerald Mackenzie, written up as an eminent Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.
Following her husband's death in 1918, Elsie worked as a nurse at Middlesex alongside her daughter before immigrating to America in 1919. There she remarried in 1921 to my great-uncle David King Patterson, supervisor of a large apple orchard.
Elsie or Emily continued her career as a nurse in a large hospital in Okanogan, Washington.
The Pattersons had no children, but her daughter Hilda moved to Vancouver with her new husband in 1927 and then to Oroville in 1929. For several years the Clarks lived next door to the Pattersons.
