Private First Class Altom, USMC, was the son of Mrs. Ethel Altom, a resident of Healdton, Oklahoma in 1946. He graduated high school in the Fox Community on May 5, 1942 and was a member of the Church of Christ. He joined the Marines on August 1, 1942, and as a member of A Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, fought on Guadalcanal and New Britain before he was killed in action on Peleliu.

Reburial services for Pvt. Lonnie Altom, who was killed in action Sept. 17, 1929 (typo in original article) in the Philippine Islands, are to be at 2 pm Thursday in the Healdton East Side Church of Christ.
Young Altom was born Dec. 2, 1921, in Texas but had lived at Healdton 15 years prior to his enlistment. He graduated from Healdton High School and was a member of the 1st Marine Division.
Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Ethel Altom, Healdton; three brothers, Sherman, Tahlequah; Oscar, Pauls Valley; M. J., Healdton; and two sisters, Mrs Bob Lindsey and Mrs. W. M. Bass, also of Healdton.
