Asmus Edens Chilton Times September 14, 1912
Asmus Edens of New Holstein died at the hospital at Hilbert on Sunday night following an operation for strangulation of the bowels. The young man visited this city on Tuesday of last week to attend the fair and visit his brother, Paul C. He was apparently in the best of health during the day and in the evening went to the Opera House to see the play. He had been in the hall only a short time when he felt faint and went outside thinking that the fresh air would make him feel better. He had hardly reached the sidewalk when he was subjected to excrutiating pains which caused him the faint.
When he came to he managed to walk to the Hotel Chilton and notify Mr. Holtz who called Drs. Bolton and Knauf who examined him and found his condition such that an operation was found necessary. He was at one taken to the Hilbert hospital and the operation was performed. He seemed to rally after the operation until Friday night when he grew worse and Dr. Tisdale of Milwaukee was called into consultation and a second operation was decided upon which performed Saturday morning. He gradually grew weaker until death came.
The deceased was born in Glenbeulah on March 8, 1882. He moved to New Holstein with his parents when a boy and has made his home in that vicinity ever since following the pursuit of farmeing and the summer and working at Kiel during the winter. He was a good workman and was popular with those who knew him. The remains were taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. Adolph Paulsen, at New Holstein on Monday afternoon and the funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Edens of Edgar, four brothers, Wm of Granton, Paul C. of Chilton, Otto of Portland, Oregon and Albert of St. Paul, Minn., and two sisters, Mrs. Adolph Paulsen of New Holstein and Mrs. Louis Kendler of Antigo.
