OBITUARY

Gladys L. Batson passed into heaven on Monday, August 29, 2011, at the age of 98 years and 7 months. She was a patient at St. David's South Austin Hospital in Austin, Texas.

Gladys was born on January 28, 1913 in Cedar Park, Texas. The eighth child of ten children to Jesse and Maggie Wade. She was graduated from Leander High School in 1930 and attended Texas A&I College in Kingsville, Texas. Later she taught elementary school for several years in the Austin area.

On June 10, 1939 she and Lewis Shelton were married in Austin, Texas. From the union two sons, Leonard Lee and Charles Wayne were born. After the sons were old enough to attend school, Gladys went to work at Citizens State Bank in Corpus Christi, Texas.

In September 1957, her husband, Lewis, passed away. Six years later she retired from the bank and in June, 1964, she married Clarence Batson of Normangee, Texas. Not long after moving to Normangee she was employed with Farmers State Bank in Madisonville, Texas. She retired from Farmers State Bank in 1985.

In retirement she enjoyed gardening, cooking, and attending church. She was a lifelong faithful member of the Church of Christ. She also looked forward to visits from all her family members, but when the grandkids came to visit she was especially delighted.

In June 2000, her husband, Clarence, passed away.

By November 2010, she found it impossible to continue living at home. She then moved to Argent Court Assisted Living in Bastrop, Texas, enabling her son, Leonard to assist with her needs.

Mrs. Batson is survived by her town sons, Leonard Shelton of Bastrop, Texas, Charles Shelton and wife Peggy of Normangee, Texas, grandson Curtis Shelton and wife Tracy of Arlington, Texas, granddaughter Kerri Kearley and husband Rollin of Arlington, Texas, and great-grandson Cameron Shelton of San Marcos, Texas.
