J. S. Blackburn, one of the best known residents of this city, who has been in California this winter for the benefit of his health, passed away at San Diego, Wednesday night of last week; death being due to acute nephritis, contributory to asthma. He has been in poor health for years and during his illness was a very patient sufferer.

James Stanton Blackburn was a son of Mr. and Mrs Edward Blackburn. He was born at Florisant, St. Louis Co., MO., Feb. 22, 1848 and died at San Diego, Calif. Feb. 2, 1921; age 72 years, 11 months and 10 days. He was married to Miss Paulina Elizabeth Williams, Oct. 16, 1870 and to this union five children - three boys and two girls - were born. They were Mrs. Maggie McMillan of Stafford, Kans., F. A. Blackburn of Anthony, Kans., J. B. Blackburn and W. E. Blackburn, both of Stafford, Kans. and Bertha Blackburn, who died in infancy. His wife also preceded him in death, having passed away Dec. 17, 1877.

Later he was married to Miss Nannie E. Strickland and to this union five children - four girls and one boy - were born. They are Mrs. Maude Jenkins, Mrs. Effie Smith, both of this city; Mrs. Della Fortner, who departed this life Mar. 17, 1919; Stanton E. Blackburn and Miss Amanda Blackburn, both of this city.

Mr. Blackburn was one of the early settlers of this county, having located here about the year 1889. For years the family made their home on a farm northwest of town. Several years ago they moved into town and since then have made their home at 520 W. Stafford St.

He was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him and he will be sadly missed from our midst.

He leaves his devoted wife and children, his grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his death. His body accompanied by his son J. B. Blackburn, who has been with him in California, arrived here Monday afternoon on No. 2. Funeral services were held, Wednesday afternoon at the family home at 2:30 o'clock and were conducted by Rev. W. H. Briggs, pastor of the Baptist church, assisted by Rev. G. M. Anderson, pastor of the Christian church.
