Kenneth W. Hardin,68, of Rotan, passed away December 16,2001, at his home in Rotan. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 18, 2001, at the Rotan First Baptist Church with Rev. Werth Mayes and Jerry Vincent officiating. The services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. with burial to follow in the Cottonwood Flat Cemetery directed by Weathersbee Funeral Home of Rotan.
Kenneth W. Hardin was born November 2, 1933 in Scurry County in the Rough Creek area. He married Barbara Tankersley in Lovington, New Mexico on August 11, 1956. Mr. Hardin was a member of the Rotan First Baptist Church. He was the Rotan City Police Chief for 13 years. He also worked as a carpenter, contractor and rancher. Kenneth served his country in the Army Air Corps, in the 11th Airborne Rangers Division. He was a 1951 graduate of Hobbs High School and a Texas A&M graduate. Kenneth served his community in several organizations, among the many are; The Rotan Little League, Rotan Pony League, he was an Ex-Chief for Rotan Volunteer Department, Master Mason in Rotan Lodge #956 and the District Deputy Grand Master in 1992. He also helped in building of the Veterans Park in downtown Rotan.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hardin of Rotan; one daughter Kimmia Johnson and husband Jason Strother of Roscoe; one son, Wes Hardin and wife Twyla of Childress, 5 brothers, Joe Hardin of Abilene, Jimmy Hardin of Petrolia, Ralph Hardin of College Station, Morris Hardin of Lubbock, and Doc Hardin of Victoria; three grandchildren, Wade and Whitney Hardin of Childress, and Amanda Johnson of Roscoe, Kenneth had countless grandchildren of the heart.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hendrick Hospice, American Cancer Society, Salvation Army, or Youth Organization of the donor's choice.
