Mary Adeline Bloedow, age 91, of Avoca and Richland Center, died on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Pine Valley Healthcare in Richland Center.

She was born March 12, 1919 in Bloom Township, Richland County, the daughter of Dennis and Lura (McBain) Looker.

She lived on the family farm near Viola for more than forty years, where she kept house for her father and brother.

She married Edward W. Bloedow on February 5, 1959, and he preceded her in death on January 23, 1997. They moved from her family farm to the Avoca area in 1962.

They had one son, Edward K. Bloedow. Mary was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church in the town of Bloom and later became a member of the Avoca United Methodist Church in Avoca.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and quilt making. She worked for 16 years as a janitor at the Clyde school in Iowa County.

She is survived by one son: Edward Kristy (Jennie) Bloedow of Avoca; one grandson: Benjamin Bloedow; one sister: Freda Merrill of Iowa, as well as many nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her siblings: Veva (Orville) Bankes, Woodburn Looker , Lynford (Laura) Looker, and Ella (Raymond) Hatfield; brother-in-law Robert Merrill; and her parents.


Funeral Services were held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Avoca United Methodist Church, with Pastor Harriett B. Rowland officiating.

Burial was held at the Avoca Cemetery.

Friends called at the Pratt Memorial Chapel, 120 N. Park St., in Richland Center on Friday, April 9, 2010 from 4:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M.

Friends also called at the Avoca United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 A.M.

The Pratt Funeral Service of Richland Center assisted the family with their arrangements.
