During the Battle of Gettysburg, he served at the Seminary Ridge hospital.
Studied medicine at Delaware College, Newark, DE and Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, PA. Read medicine four years with Dr. Thomas H. Thompson from 1855 to 1859.
Practiced medicine at Jennerville, Chester Co., in 1859. Member of the Oxford Medical Society of Chester County. Served as Examining Surgeon for the pension department in the county. Active member of the Feeemasons, Odd Fellows, and the Thompson Post of the G.A.R.
Made frequest trips to the Gettysburg battlefield after the war.
